The quiet consistency McDuffie provided to Kansas City’s defense may have been the more intriguing aspect of his career. Steve Spagnuolo, the defensive coordinator, frequently moved him across the field to shadow some of the fastest receivers in football, having him play nickel coverage one week and outside corner the next. It’s difficult to ignore how infrequently McDuffie appeared overburdened as you watched those assignments develop. His playing has a certain serenity to it.

His Southern California upbringing might be the source of that serenity. After growing up in Westminster, McDuffie went to St. John Bosco High School, where football is treated almost like a year-round career.
